State of maximum alert for bad weather arriving at Friuli Venezia Giulia. From this afternoon scattered rains will begin, particularly in the Carnic Alps and the Pre-Alps. The snow level will initially be 500 to 700 meters high, while at night it will increase. On Saturday heavy or very heavy rains are expected in the mountainous area with snow at 1800 meters in the Pre-Alps, about 1500 in the Alps but locally, towards Austria, even 1200 meters. Strong southerly winds are expected at high altitudes.
On the plain
In the plain there will be abundant and intermittent rains, with possible storms, moderate and sporadic rains towards the coast, where the Sirocco will blow even strongly. For Sunday the forecast is more uncertain. There will probably still be siroccal rains in the mountainous area, then during the day thunderstorms and locally heavy rains on the plains and coast. Probably strong gusts of wind throughout the region.
The effects
Given the occurrence of the events announced, a significant increase in water courses is expected, particularly in the course of the plain of the River Livenza, with possible crisis situations in the hydrographic network and urban drainage, instability phenomena on the slopes with interruptions in the road network, problems related to wind and snow in the affected areas. On the coast there are problems related to strong winds, high tide in correspondence with tidal peaks and storm surges.
Region
Due to possible critical issues related to the forecast of bad weather in the last hours of today and tomorrow, the Region has issued a red meteorological alert that provides for the call, for this afternoon at 4:00 p.m., of the regional emergency committee. The news is given by the Deputy Governor of the Region Riccardo riccardi from the Palmanova Civil Protection operating room. “To face the emergency foreseen on December 5 and 6 due to intense meteorological phenomena in the regional territory of Pordenone and Upper Friuli, as a result of the meteorological alert – explains Riccardi -, the Corem meeting will be chaired at 4:00 p.m. . by the governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia. On that occasion, with the heads of the regional state administrations and the integrated regional civil protection system, which includes the regional directorates, the health system, the prefectures, the fire department, the order and those responsible for the network, will be examined the current situation, the corresponding emergency measures will be dictated and the other containment measures deemed appropriate will be taken ”.
