The record is now broken every day, but yesterday’s bulletin provides another sad record for Calabria linked to the coronavirus pandemic: it is the region with the highest percentage increase (+ 5.9%) of “positives” in Italy.
In fact, 443 new cases were found, exceeding 400 for the first time in a single day, while in the last survey the “positivity” had been 359. There are also 4 other victims, two in Cosenza, one in Catanzaro and 1 in Reggio with the total being updated every day and reaching 144. The infection continues in Cosenza and Reggio. The cases verified yesterday by the processing of the swabs (some of them were overdue in recent days) are the following: Cosenza 199, Catanzaro 18, Crotone 48, Vibo Valentia 5, Reggio Calabria 173.
Hospitalizations continue to increase, so much so that hospitals are getting ready redefine the strategies and order the beds for a greater increase of the subjects who will be forced to resort to health care. In Reggio, for example, the internal covid plan was redefined in the last hours also in light of the cases in the orthopedic department that forced the general management to temporarily ban hospitalizations, emphasizing, however, that urgent cases will be treated.
Yesterday another 23 new beds occupied by patients infected with the virus with the total rising to 256 while the 16 intensive care posts remained stable until last night, but then a patient at the Gran Metropolitano hospital worsened and therefore the total at the Reggio hospital went from 5 to six. Subjects in home isolation are growing at a frenetic rate and yesterday they registered +402 more while the number of patients who have recovered from the infection is very low: there were only 14.
The two provinces that suffer the most remain Reggio and Cosenza who are so concerned about the continuous and unstoppable increase in orders for tampons that provincial health authorities have difficulty tracking and there are still “positive” people in the tests carried out on individuals waiting for tampons at home. Only the ASP, in fact, can certify the positivity or not to the virus.
