The president of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, has announced that as of Friday, October 30, he will suspend activities in presence for elementary, middle and high schools. Puglia is the first region to take such a measure: in recent days, the national government had often insisted on the need for primary and secondary schools to remain open even during the so-called second wave, to give continuity to activities of face-to-face teaching.
From Friday, however, all the institutes in Apulia will have to move their activities to the so-called integrated digital learning, which is what was called distance learning until a few months ago. Emiliano called it a “difficult” decision, adding that the presence activities will continue for kindergartens and nurseries.
The request for suspension of the activity in presence was made by the association of pediatricians, according to which the regional health company for a few days has no longer been able to manage the quarantines and tests planned for classmates and teachers of the children who tested positive.
