Bruno, Mafalda and Giuliana Naldi, now over eighty years old, lived that encounter as an adventure that ended with the photo with the soldier Adler, now the latter, the son of Hungarian Jews who emigrated to the United States after the First World War, now has drawn from the drawer of memories that express the want to hug those three children again known in that tragic fall of ’44.
After word of mouth between associations, mayors and citizens of the Apennines, the three brothers were located in Castel San Pietro Terme, where they have resided for years. They are no longer children, but they are still fit, they remember that meeting and the cry of their mother, who died in 2000, to stop the detonators of the soldiers who feared a German ambush in those days of war when they were fighting house to house: Children, children! “

Adler, who promises to come to Italy to meet the three brothers, said what he found with the little ones in the basket was “a moment of joy in the hell of war.” And now, 76 years later, the hug, for now only virtual in video call, but in the future the ex-military man promises to be able to personally hug the Naldi brothers, crossing the Atlantic again, but this time for peace.
