POLIGNANO TO MARE – There are 25 other infections among the employees of the Polignano a Mare fruit and vegetable company where 78 cases of Coronavirus were found yesterday. The news is given by Mayor Domenico Vitto. As reported by Vitto, the last 114 swabs were tested by ASL Bari and, to the first 78 positives that came out yesterday, another 25 cases are added.
However, not all are residents of Polignano, the company’s workers, in fact, live in three different provinces: Bari, Taranto and Brindisi.
SWABS IN DRIVING MODE – Dozens of cars were already lined up from 8 am this morning in front of the area authorized by Civil Protection to pass swabs in “drive-in” mode, then directly into the car, to whom they were in close contact with the 78 employees of the company fruit and vegetable “Sop”, in Polignano a Mare, which yesterday tested positive for Covid.
The swab is performed by doctors from the Bari ASL Prevention Department without the person having to get out of the car. The local police have organized mandatory routes and only family members living in the same house can stay in the cars, to avoid promiscuity.
Test results will be available in the next 24 hours. Today we will know the result of another hundred swabs to the employees of the «Sop».
GIORGIA MELONI NEGATIVE TO THE TEST – The leader of the Brothers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, who on August 24 visited the Polignano a Mare company where 78 positive cases of Covid appeared yesterday, carried out the serological test that gave a negative result. ANSA finds out about this from the parliamentary entourage. Meloni had carried out the test after returning to Rome from the electoral tour in Puglia, so before the outbreak in the company ‘Sop’ was known, Meloni visited with the candidate for president of the Puglia Region through the center-right , Raffaele Fitto.
THE MAYOR: “LET’S GO OUT” – Of the 157 employees of the fruit and vegetable company “Sop” in which 103 positive employees for Covid have been identified, 38 reside in Polignano a Mare, where the company is based.
This was reported by Mayor Domenico Vitto, specifying that “the other workers live in neighboring municipalities or even in other provinces of Apulia.”
The mayor does not hide that there is a climate of “concern” in the city but “we are facing the situation with the right attitude and with an excellent organization that involves the Region, Civil Protection, Local Health Authority and the Municipality.” If we continue like this and stick together in a few days we will be out.
As of this morning, the ASL began to make swabs in drive-in mode even to close contacts of the infected: “About forty swabs were made – Vitto continues – in the area authorized by Civil Protection” near the municipal stadium. To take the exam you need to book on the ASL Bari website. Starting today, the ASL must communicate the final result of the swabs made to the company’s employees.
Meanwhile, since this morning the municipal offices of Polignano have been reopened after the positivity of a local police officer was verified last Monday. “All the employees,” explains Vitto, “underwent a serological test, me too, and the results are all negative. The traffic police, on the other hand, took a swab.”
