Coronavirus alarm in Polignano, where an outbreak would have exploded in a well-known import and export farm, the Sop, with more than 80 positives at the moment. In these hours the results of a part of about 160 swabs made among the company’s staff would have arrived where a worker, after experiencing symptoms, tested positive.

From here, the health surveillance mechanism was launched, which saw the ASL involved in the execution of the swabs, while the SOP company was in charge of disinfestation. The first results would have confirmed the suspicions and it is the explosion of an outbreak that would have affected a large part of the employees. Health controls – based on what was learned from the health authorities – would have established at least 80 confirmed positive cases.

The ASL Prevention Department of Bari has activated epidemiological surveillance procedures. It cannot be excluded that investigations may increase the number of infections after contact tracing activity.

Mayor Domenico Vitto has not yet received any official communication. In the last hours, the mayor had ordered the closure of public offices after a positive case found in an inmate who worked in the Municipality. So far, half of the serological tests performed on municipal personnel have yielded negative results.
