After the UK, severe allergic reactions were also reported in Alaska following the administration of the Pfizer vaccine.
I beef against Covid-19 would have no known history of allergies behind them.
Just days after allergic reactions to the Pfizer vaccine in the UK, new news came in the case of two health workers in Alaska.
A woman and a man underwent emergency care minutes after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.
Health officials were not intimidated by what happened. The vaccination plan continues, they said, it was still fair to share information for the sake of transparency.
Serious Allergic Reactions from the Pfizer Vaccine to Two Health Professionals
The vaccine administration at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau alerted experts to two employee-related cases.
The woman, who had no history of allergies, became ill 10 minutes after injecting the vaccine. He immediately developed a rash on his face and torso, shortness of breath, and tachycardia.
Due to the reaction of some seriousness, the doctors have reported that the first approach was made in an emergency. Epinephrine was administered as usual for anaphylactic shock.
He showed recovery of symptoms after emergency treatment. This prompted healthcare professionals to continue steroid and adrenaline therapy.
When an attempt was made to gradually stop the infusion, a reappearance of symptoms was immediately noted. For this reason it was decided to transfer to intensive care for observation.
The man, an employee of the same hospital in Juneau, also developed an adverse reaction 10 minutes after injecting the Pfizer vaccine: puffy eyes, dizziness and a sore throat.
Transfer to the emergency room, they administered adrenaline and antihistamines.
However, hospital management announced that the event that happened to the second employee was not considered an anaphylactic reaction.
Then the health worker recovered within an hour.
Expert concerns
Concerns about side effects after these last major cases of severe allergic reactions increase significantly.
These early anaphylactic manifestations could prompt experts to create stricter guidelines for post-vaccine monitoring.
According to Pfizer, vaccinated subjects must remain under observation for at least 15 minutes according to current protocols.
But already after the British cases, the CDC in Atlanta announced that people with severe allergies could be vaccinated safely by repeating a control for at least 30 minutes.
Researchers are trying to understand which component of the vaccine is creating these reactions.
Dr. Jay Butler, one of the leading experts in infectious diseases Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the situation in Alaska showed that the monitoring system worked.
A firm point remains that could represent an obstacle to the need to accelerate the operations of the Covid-19 vaccine.
In fact, experts recommend not just that the vaccine be given in settings that have supplies, including oxygen and adrenaline, just to control anaphylactic reactions.
But above all, that they have trained personnel to manage the necessary emergencies, in a properly protected environment. This is also an assumption indicated by Pfizer itself.
After these events, the administration times of the Pfizer vaccine could be extended, given the most incisive recommendations.
The safe place, monitoring for a longer time, staff prepared to handle emergencies, adequate safeguards, will represent in the coming days and months, a fixed point and also difficult to implement to organize a vaccination plan for billions of people.
