He waited for his daughters (13 and 7 years old) to be at school to report to his wife’s house, a house he could not return to as he was forbidden to approach, after several reports of abuse in the family. Husband and wife, separated in fact, quarreled and he struck her in the throat with two kitchen knives, found on the spot. He then turned away and headed towards the historic town walls, from where he launched himself from a height of 15 meters. Rescue of 118 died shortly after in hospital.
Only when the police went home to notify the family did they discover the woman’s body lying on the floor in a pool of blood between the kitchen and the dining room. A murder-suicide that seems to follow a script that has been seen too many times and that has shaken the small town of Novilara, on the outskirts of Pesaro. The protagonists are a 44-year-old Moroccan worker, Chouaye Mourad, and his 41-year-old wife, Simona Porceddu, of Sardinian origin, but who became a Moroccan citizen by marriage, a housewife.
He, a person “who presented himself well” and with a stable job, they say in the town, but who had several drug precedents. He was released fifteen days ago after serving a sentence for crimes of this type. But she also ended up in jail because her umpteenth complaint had come in February: he had beaten her while she was at home under house arrest.
Once out of prison, Mourad went to live with his two 23-year-old twin sons from a previous marriage, who also live in Novilara. Officially, there were no legal procedures for separation, but the two were effectively separated and coexistence seemed impossible, after the beatings, mistreatment, fights and complaints. Around one o’clock in the afternoon he showed up at his house: nobody knows what happened. Neighbors heard the loud voices of an argument, as had often happened in the past, and paid no attention. At the height of the discussion Mourad took two knives from the kitchen with which he hit her. He then fled, leaving his dead wife on the ground and the two knives stained with blood.
A short route: Novilara is a small town, known for the archaeological area, up to the flight of the historical walls. There were cars underneath, passersby noticed what had happened and called for help. Mourad was unconscious, probably in a coma and died upon arrival at the hospital. So what he had done before committing suicide, the murder of his wife, the carabinieri found out only a couple of hours later.
