Covid in France
A drop in the number of new Covid-19 cases in France appears to be the first tangible effect of this first month of lockdown. The news was announced by French Health Minister Olivier Vran, who said he believed we had passed the peak of the epidemic. We have regained control over the epidemic, he explained. The virus circulation rate has already decreased for 10 days, as has the positive test rate and incidence rate. Everything – added the minister – therefore leads us to believe that we have overcome an epidemic peak. However, the situation in le-de-France is worrying, where 96.5% of intensive care places are occupied by coronavirus patients.
Covid in Great Britain
The number of deaths from coronavirus in the United Kingdom exceeded 52,000 out of a total of 1,372,884 cases. the highest number in Europe in absolute numbers, but not in relation to population (by this calculation, Belgium and Spain have a heavier budget and Italy is close behind). Yesterday, the Kingdom confirmed a stabilization of new daily infections (stopped below 25,000) after about 10 days of national blockade bis in England, with a number of additional deaths that fell to 168 (not counting the statistical collection traditionally not full weekend), for the third consecutive day lower than Italy. While the Rt rate of spread of the infection fell in recent days to a level between 1 and 1.2 according to the different territories. StayFurthermore, the total number of people hospitalized in the island’s hospitals and intensive care units for coronavirus is decidedly lower than in Italy at the moment.
Covid in Austria
Vienna is planning a massive overhaul after the second lockdown, which will take effect next week. The announcement came from Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who spoke of the intention to take a step similar to what happened in Slovakia, where two-thirds of the population were tested two weeks ago, with just over 1% positive results. Starting tomorrow the country will return to your hands in March with a total blockade: 24 hour curfew, schools and shops closed, in an attempt to keep a contagion curve described as exponential in different regions under control. The blockade will remain in effect until December 6. Carpet testing should come next, to ensure schools reopen and the Christmas holidays, Kurz explained.
Covid in Germany
Germany is implementing a soft lockdown earlier this month, with bars, restaurants, gyms and other leisure facilities closing, but with schools and shops still open. In the last 24 hours, another 16,947 cases and 107 deaths related to the disease have been registered. Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said citizens should prepare for each other four or five months of severe measures to stop the rise in infections and they shouldn’t expect current rules to loosen quickly.
There are currently more than 3,300 patients in intensive care.
Covid in Spain
The number of deaths is increasing but infections are decreasing. Between Saturday and Sunday, 14,000 new positives were registered compared to 18,000 the day before. In Catalonia, those infected in 24 hours fell from 3,000 to 2,000, in Madrid from 1925 to 663. Infections also slowed down in Andalusia, the region most affected by Covid-19 in November: the positives were 3,600 in the last 24 hours compared to 4,000 the day before.
The situation is not so optimistic when it comes to the deaths that have occurred 214 on Sunday against 174 on Saturday. In total, 40,769 people have died from coronavirus in Spain.
There are 20,296 hospitalized patients of which 3,125 are in intensive care, which represents 31.75% of the hospital capacity.
