The French authorities have ordered the closure of all the bars in Paris starting tomorrow for two weeks, in an attempt to stop the second wave of Covid-19 infections that hit the country. In fact, the transalpine government has raised the alert level for the capital region to “maximum”. The measure is activated when in a certain area of the country the contagion rate exceeds the quota of 250 infected per 100,000 inhabitants, while at least a third of the intensive care places available in hospitals are occupied by people affected by Covid- 19.
The thousands of restaurants and bistros in the capital will be able to remain open only if they implement new hygiene and customer control measures, such as data registration, and they will also have to close at 10:00 p.m. The measure will affect the capital and three neighboring departments .
The consumption of alcohol in the streets will be prohibited, while the markets will remain open. Partially closed for gyms and swimming pools: they will remain open only for minors. The prefect of Paris also announced a ban on events with more than 1,000 people, except for security agents. Meetings of more than ten people on public roads are also prohibited, even if queues outside the shops are allowed even beyond this limit, taking care to maintain safe distances. The right to demonstrate during student nights is prohibited. The authorities also received an invitation to limit individual exits and favor teleworking. While nursing home visits are possible but by appointment.
A similar tightening had already been adopted by the second French city, Marseille, which had imposed the closure of bars and restaurants two weeks ago.
In France, only yesterday 12,565 cases of contagion by Covid-19 were registered. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), there are 580,703 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in the country.
The prime minister said there has been no improvement in the Paris region since the three parameters that raised the alert were exceeded in the middle of last week. The peak level shoots up when the incidence rate exceeds 100 infections per 100,000 among the elderly and 250 per 100,000 among the community, while at least 30% of intensive care beds are reserved for coronavirus patients.
