Pamela Mastropietro, confirmed life sentence for Oseghale

Well done, great. The applause of Alessandra Verni, mother of 18-year-old Pamela Mastropietro, murdered and torn to pieces on January 30, 2018 in Macerata, greeted the verdict of the Ancona Court of Appeal delivered in the evening after five and a half hours in the council room : Innocent Oseghale, a 32-year-old Nigerian trafficker, has been sentenced to life imprisonment, in isolation for 18 months, charged with voluntary murder, aggravated by sexual violence, insult, destruction and concealment of a body.

After the reading of the device by the President of the Court, Giovanni Treré, Pamela’s mother rejoiced, stopped by her lawyer. As Oseghale was leaving the courtroom, escorted by the prison police, he said aloud: “I did not kill her, okay, they understand all Italians.” “We expected this sentence, given the air that was blowing this morning …”, the heated comment of one of the two defenders, lawyer Umberto Gramenzi. The defense announced the appeal to the Supreme Court because “there have been violations of the law.” The sentence came after a long hearing devoted in particular to the defense arguments and the spontaneous statements of the accused.

“I did not kill Pamela,” Oseghale reiterated, admitting, however, almost impassively, that he had dissected her body to get rid of it because it did not fit in a suitcase. “I was shocked, confused, agitated – reported on body dissection, reading a handwritten sheet translated by an English interpreter – I did a terrible thing … sorry.” The apologies sent to the sender first by the family attorney, the attorney. Marco Valerio Verni, Pamela’s uncle, and then by the 18-year-old Roman’s mother, always present at the hearings. “You can save the apologies – he answered on the sidelines of the trial – He had the last chance to tell the truth and he did not. I do not believe him. He went to buy the bleach with someone else, tell us why … ». The young woman’s body was found the next day in two carts on the side of a Pollenza road, near Macerata, where Oseghale had left it.

Therefore, the reconstruction of the Attorney General’s Office, represented by Pg Sergio Sottani and by substitute Ernesto Napolillo, accepted by the judges: Oseghale killed Pamela with two stabs in the liver after having consumed sexual relations with her, taking advantage of the state of the girl’s frailty – with a double borderline diagnosis. and drug addiction: he escaped the day before from a therapeutic community and had used heroin obtained through Oseghale. The murder, according to the prosecution, would have been the way to prevent her from reporting it. At the hearing, the defense – also with the other lawyer Simone Matraxia – fought to reject the charges of murder and sexual violence. Defenders contested the medico-legal findings and, in particular, the fact that the two knife wounds were inflicted while Pamela was alive.

The 32-year-old has always maintained that Pamela fell ill at home after injecting heroin and then died: he, panicked, according to his version of events, dismembered the body just to get rid of it. Opposite is the accusatory reconstruction that has outlined the profile of Oseghale as a person prone to lies, an “acrobat of lies” and with particular forensic capacity, as much as to tear the body in a unique way in the world among cases of criminology. There is no doubt, according to the Attorney General, the vitality of the two stab wounds that caused Pamela’s fatal hemorrhage in the attic of via Spalato 124.
