Pablito’s funeral, Monsignor Ruaro: ‘He was a man of faith’

Three hundred people in the Duomo, like many outside, trying to respect the rules of distancing but with a lot of desire to say goodbye to Paolo Rossi for the last time. Pablito’s funeral was celebrated this morning in Vicenza by Monsignor Ruaro in an atmosphere of deep sadness but also serenity, as Paolo would have liked.

At 10.20 the coffin was carried to the Duomo on the shoulders of the 1982 world champions: Tardelli, Cabrini, Antognoni, Altobelli, Collovati, Causio, Conti, Gentile, Bergomi, Oriali, Marini, Galli, Massaro. That is a group of friends even before being champion and in these terrible days the bond has become even stronger. In the church there are great champions: Paolo Maldini, Roberto Baggio, Roberto Bettega. And then Tacconi, Serena, Galderisi and others, plus FIGC President Gabriele Gravina. Before the ceremony began, Antonio Cabrini spoke some very painful words, the one who had a very close relationship with Paolo: “I still see you shooting … I promise to be close to Federica and the girls, but you stay close to us. I’m not leaving you. “There are the banners of Juve and Vicenza, while a blue T-shirt has been placed on the coffin.

The ceremony was intense and agile at the same time. In his homily, Monsignor Ruaro highlighted the Christianity and faith of Pablo, who began to play in the oratory and never stopped attending church. Even the last love message sent to his wife conveyed his belief that we are only passing through on earth. After the ceremony, the coffin left for Tuscany. Paolo will be cremated and his ashes will remain forever close to his wife Federica and his daughters Sofia Elena and Maria Vittoria.
