Quiliano. They walked along the tracks, their only point of reference to reach France. IS on those tracks they met death, a horrible death, in one case before his brother. It is the drama of the two young people overwhelmed by a train tonight region in Quiliano, a tragedy about which new details have begun to emerge in recent hours.

The two victims belonged to a group of Kurdish and Iranian refugees, all children. Coming from Lecce, after landing in Puglia they were transported to Savona and abandoned here. His goal was to reach France, but none speak italian or has minimal knowledge of the geography of the area. Who brought them to Savona gave them just one indication: “Follow the clues.” And so they did, leaving at night.

It is not clear, then, what happened: if the group did not notice the arrival of the train, if it was a moment of distraction, or if someone tried to fly in it to make the trip less tiring. The fact is that the convoy ran over two of them: one died instantly from the violent impact, the other suffered chest trauma so severe that any rescue was in vain. And the brother of one of the two victims, in shock after the tragedy, was taken to hospital. In the following hours, the group of survivors was transferred to the police station for investigation. None speak Italian, they only managed to explain that they were heading to Ventimiglia.

It is actually about a phenomenon Savona law enforcement agencies have witnessed for a few weeks, especially near motorway toll booths: the arrival in the Savona area of groups of refugees who left for France. They always come from the Kurdish area, from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq. They all have the same story: they are left here with a vague indication of the direction to take and leave, using the most disparate files.

In early November, for example, a group of 6 Afghans, with women and children, were found to be traveling illegally inside a truck that they had secretly got on. In that case, the refugees had crossed the border at Trieste and were heading to France: the vehicle, however, had to make a delivery to the Flexopack in Villanova d’Albenga, where the workers had discovered the illegal immigrants. A month later, in early December, another group, Afghans again, was intercepted in Cisano Sul Neva. Now research aims to understand if the flow is somehow structured and exploited by any organization.
