PORDENONE – Impossible controls, both on board vehicles and on the ground, that is, on the platforms of stops and stations throughout the province. Short blankets represent the costs necessary to improve a service that, however, everyone asks for an improvement. The urgency of sticking to the schedule to avoid chronic delays (a problem discussed in the next article). These are the topics discussed yesterday at the summit between the mayors (25 among the first citizens and delegates of the different municipalities) and Atap. An urgent meeting to try to solve a situation, that of public transport linked to the restart of schools, close to the tilt. And the most felt problem, in addition to the provision of vehicles by the company, was that of security.
THE APPEAL
In the eyes of the mayors there are still images from a few days ago, bouncing from cell phone to cell phone: overcrowded students, some without masks, at the Spilimbergo bus station. But the same scene was repeated in all the busiest centers. Thus, yesterday, driven by the proposals launched by the mayors of Spilimbergo and Valvasone Arzene, a squeeze was requested on the security front. «The Region – said the first two citizens – must help us. As municipalities we cannot control everything. Local police officers – said Enrico Sarcinelli, mayor of Spilimbergo – were diverted to the bus station from the schools, but then we received complaints from the schools themselves. The blanket is short and help is needed. “An idea also promoted by Markus Maurmair (Valvasone Arzene):” It is time to make an emergency fund available to implement security services: controls are essential. I myself received photos of buses full of boys without masks on board. ”For his part, Narciso Gaspardo (Atap president) defended himself as follows:” Drivers, “he said,” cannot become drivers, at least not in this case. ” many times those who do not wear masks occupy double-decker buses and choose the highest seats, where control is practically impossible. The images from the internal cameras reach the Atap operations center, but “pinching” everyone is impossible. So the mayors ask the region for help to make an urgent fund available to guarantee surveillance. “And we are talking about local policemen,” interrupted the mayor of Spilimbergo. We are not referring to volunteers that are difficult to find or buffer solutions represented perhaps by private security institutes. Only in Spilimbergo, for example, there are nine hundred students in Agraria. The meeting, if not managed, is inevitable.
TESTIMONIALS
Later, the representation of the Municipality of Maniago brought another case to the attention of the summit: “There are students – it was explained – that in order to take the bus they hide behind the seats. In this way, the security system fails. Other early citizens spoke of “bus robberies.”
THE FLEET
Atap is still waiting for a reinforcement made up of seven next-generation vehicles. “There was a delay of a month and a half due to the pandemic,” said President Gaspardo. Five will arrive next week, which will be added to the nine obtained from the recovery of buses previously destined for tourist rental. But it still won’t be enough. Drivers can be obtained from the Sti subsidiary, but you always have to consider the issue of company accounts. “The budgets – Gaspardo confessed – are upset.” On Monday, at the meeting to be held in the Region, Atap will inform the Authority of the needs related to the fleet. “We understand the moment of difficulty, but the acquisition of new media is an urgent matter. We ask the company to quickly take back the buses from private subcontractors. ‘ The same request was signed by Markus Maurmair, Mayor of Valvasone Arzene. But also to subcontract the sections requires the authorization of the Region.
