An outbreak with 11 Covid-positive people was identified in a company specializing in the processing of sausages in Chiusa, South Tyrol. 11 infected people, while 33 collaborators who came into close contact with them were quarantined. Another 26 people are monitored. The outbreak affects only one section of the company, that of sausages, which will now be cleaned and disinfected in accordance with the provisions of the Hygiene Service, reports the Health Authority.
The Minister responsible for Health Thomas Widmann underlines how the excellent preparation and organization within the Alto Adige health authority has “allowed rapid intervention and therefore the immediate isolation and control of the epidemiological event.” The small structure of most companies in South Tyrol would also have the advantage that the size of any grouping could generally remain smaller than elsewhere.
The head of the company also underlines the importance of the rapid intervention of the competent bodies: “Having interrupted the infectious chain immediately allows us to close a single section, while for the rest we can continue working”. According to the regent director of the Food Hygiene Area of the Veterinary Service of the Health Company, Dr.
Agostino Carli, direct or indirect risks for consumers or buyers of the products of the sausage factory are excluded, as they are irrelevant in epidemiological terms.
