Nuclear missiles, Trump opens another front with China

When it comes to normal safety these days, thinking is directed toward health safety. But along with the emergence of the coronavirus, other security insecurities and others continue to exist, mainly in the nuclear field. Of the great treaties concluded between Washington and Moscow to cut or limit their respective nuclear arsenals, capable of destroying the world several times, only one is still in force today: the New Beginning signed in 2010 by Obama and Medvedev, which forces the parties to deploy no more than 1,550 atomic warheads and also reduces the number of aircraft bombs and submarine nuclear missiles. A terrifying level, but the lowest ever achieved and involves a series of mutual controls. Well, this agreement will expire in February 2021, eliminating inspections in the counterparty territory and canceling all limits, if not renewed until 2026 first.

It is clear then that the announcement of an upcoming resumption of strategic negotiations between the US. USA And Russia has sparked, if the virus allows it, a lot of interest. But the illusions seem destined not to last long. From concordant sources (and it had been the same for Euro-missiles) it seems that Trump is willing to return to the table with Moscow, but on the condition that China is involved. Which may have made sense on the short and medium haul, but has much less on the long haul to intercontinental reach. Of the 300 Chinese atomic warheads, few are carried by Icbm missiles, and given the enormity of the American and Russian arsenals, it can be understood that Beijing refuses, as it already did, to expose itself to cuts or limitations. But Trump does not give up, he wants to affirm the principle and in a future perspective he is right. The risk, then, is that the New Beginning will expire, that the tug-of-war between the United States and China will join the others, and that all of humanity will emerge much more insecure.
