New Years party at the hotel, apologies from the owner

The eloquent leaflets left on the hotel tables did not serve to dissuade the 126 participants of the New Year’s Eve lunch, accompanied by dances and songs without masks, from posting photos and videos of the party on social media. In addition to the Milanese restaurateur who documented, with great detail and timing, the mega party organized at the Splendido Bay Luxury Spa Resort in Padenghe sul Garda, others made public the party ‘forbidden’ and interrupted by the Local Police of Valtenesi.

And those eloquent images quickly swept the web, outraging all of Italy. A lunch that lasted beyond sunset, with DJs and vocalists to entertain the guests who, between dishes and hundreds of toasts, went wild on the improvised dance floor between the tables. All without even wearing a mask.

The clients have been identified by the Valtenesi Local Police officers and Commander Massimo Landi assures that they will not get away with it: they will receive a fine of 400 euros each, for having violated the Christmas Dpcm. Agents are still examining the responsibilities and violations committed by the owner of the structure, Ivan Favalli.

Codacons asks for the intervention of the judiciary

Meanwhile, the hotelier has made public his version of events in a video posted on Facebook. However, the explanations weren’t enough to quell the (understandable) fiery controversy. The Codacons and the Garda Community, in fact, ask for the intervention of the judiciary.

“Participants in the illegal party put the health of the community at risk and must be criminally investigated for the possible crime of competing in a guilty epidemic,” says the consumer association. “What happened damages the image of many tour operators and hoteliers who, despite themselves, had to interrupt their business with significant damage,” said Pierlucio Ceresa, secretary of the Garda Community.

Apologies from the owner

On Friday night Favalli posted a new long message, also on Facebook: a kind of mea culpa in which he humbly asks for forgiveness.

“I would like to express my apologies for not being able to handle the situation and the behavior of the clients in the best way, do not worry, obviously it will not happen again,” he says.

“For me it was a question of survival (in a year we lost 6 months of work) – explains Favalli – lunch at the hotel was legally allowed, I want to clarify it and dinner was not served except in the room. It is with great regret that I realize that I have offended all the people who have suffered the Covid in some way, I have been seriously managing clubs for 30 years, I hope that this fact does not frustrate the sacrifices of a lifetime.
