The government is thinking of new measures to contain the Covid-19 infection. As we reported separately, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is adamant: “50% presence teaching must restart on January 7.”
However, it does not end there. There would be other measures in process. Here are all the latest updates.

The weekend of January 9 and 10 the measures planned for the orange zone will be in force throughout Italy: among these, the closures of bars and restaurants also for lunch, but open only for the sale of take away food. As of January 7 and until the 15th, expiration date of the last dpcm, movement between regions is allowed only for reasons of necessity. An extension of the prohibition to house more than two family members or friends, excluding those under 14 years of age, is also foreseen.
A bridge measure between January 7 and 15 is not excluded, nor between the expiration date of the Christmas decree and that of the last Dpcm.. In the evening there will be a meeting of the technical-scientific committee that advances towards the revision of the decisive criteria for the determination of the risk bands. However, the evaluation criteria could be modified to adopt more or less restrictive rules, perhaps paying more attention to the positivity index.
The president of the Liguria region, Giovanni Toti, in a live announcement on Facebook: “We have been warned by the Government, or by Minister Speranza, by Minister Boccia and by the Conference of the Regions that brings us together as Governors. It is very likely that there will already be a first meeting between the Government and the Regions this afternoon at 9:30 pm to start thinking in a fairly short time, because in Befana the restrictions will end throughout the national territory.
Meanwhile, Italy will be orange tomorrow, then Tuesday the 5th and Wednesday the 6th again red.
Reopening of schools, Conte insists on January 7. However, the hypothesis remains to be postponed until January 18.

What the orange zone provides
- You can leave your home but any movement in and out of the municipalities of residence is prohibited.
- One rule refers to the smallest municipalities: it is possible to leave the territory of municipalities with less than five thousand inhabitants within a radius of 30 kilometers. However, you will not be able to travel to the provincial capitals, even if they are within a 30-kilometer radius.
- The shops can remain open until 9:00 p.m., but the activities of the catering services are suspended (including bars, pubs, restaurants, ice cream parlors, patisseries). Catering with delivery service is allowed and, until 10 pm, take-out catering, with prohibition of consumption on the spot or in the immediate vicinity. In any case, the restaurants on the highway and the catering services at the stations and airports remain open.
