Without thinking twice, early Thursday morning, he descended into the cold waters of a stream in Nembro and saved a girl who had attempted an extreme gesture. Protagonist of the episode (“but don’t call me a hero”, he explains the next day) Walter Torsello, 24 years old, a few months ago the Fidelitas from Bergamo, where he arrived from his Basilicata with an experience in the Army.
Torsello, around 5 in the morning, was returning to the Bergamo plant after having completed the last night inspection at the Persico in via Valsecchio. On the way, near Cascina Colombana, he saw a car in the middle of the road with four arrows lit and stopped to ask the driver if he needed help.
In the car he found a boy, visibly upset, who told him that he saw a woman who had thrown herself into the canal next to the road.
“I approached the stream – says Torsello – but it was still dark and I couldn’t see anything. So I turned on the area with the flashlight and saw the person inside. Then I dropped into the water ”.
Meanwhile, the Alzano carabinieri and medical personnel arrived at the scene, contacted by the motorist, in an ambulance and a car.
The security guard approached the girl, a 29-year-old girl from the area, and helped her return to shore: “When I hugged her, I was in shock. She just asked for my help and couldn’t say more. Upon reaching the street, I entrusted her to the doctors. I learned that they took her to the hospital for controls, but it must not be serious. “
Torsello, with his clothes soaked, warmed himself with a thermal blanket but immediately got on the service wagon to return to the plant: “I was fine – he concludes – and I think I did not do anything extraordinary but only my duty, also thanks to experience in the army “.
Luigi ferrara, responsible of Fidelitas Bergamo, congratulated its employee: “It was a commendable gesture. Torsello will receive recognition from our company. “
