The one of December 16, the last of the three dates on which the liquefaction of blood is expected annually, is called “secular miracle” because the ceremony takes place in the Chapel of San Gennaro, managed by the San Gennaro County Council, an institution lay founded in 1527 and chaired by the mayor of Naples.
