The new name of the San Paolo stadium in Naples will be “Estadio Diego Armando Maradona”. This is the final decision taken by the municipal administration of Naples, as announced informally by Mayor Luigi de Magistris who wrote on Instagram: “The ideas are many and beautiful, in the end the name will be Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.”

Already in the hours immediately after the news of the death of the Argentine champion, after the announcement by the Municipality of wanting to name the stadium after the Pibe de Oro, a debate was born in the city and on social networks about what would be the new name. Among the proposals also Maradona Arena, Maradona Stadium and Diego Armando Maradona Municipal Stadium. Also the Councilor for Sports of the Municipality of Naples, Ciro Borriello, confirms the decision: “The fans and the Neapolitan people will decide on the name of the stadium – Borriello writes on Facebook – we will start all the administrative procedures from tomorrow so that we can quickly name the stadium in Naples Estadio Diego Armando Maradona”.
Borriello went today to the Fuorigrotta plant, outside of which the “pilgrimage” of Neapolitan fans continued today, leaving thousands of memories and memories in honor of Maradona: “We decided to cover them to protect them from the elements – explains Borriello – to preserve them and create a museum, which is municipal, in everyone’s sense. People keep bringing new ones, we are trying to do everything possible, so that nothing is lost. Every memory and every emotion will be conserved and consigned in memory and history, a testimony for future generations.
