The mayor of Monte San Biagio Federico Carnevale has decided to postpone the start of educational activities until September 24, 2020. The decision was made public on the mayor’s Facebook profile:

“Good morning, this morning I want to make an important communication. I am about to sign the ordinance to postpone the start of teaching activities until September 24, 2020. We all know the reasons and, honestly, I do not understand why the opening of the school year should be made to coincide with the referendum consultations. Only with an act of irresponsibility could one imagine opening on the 14th, forcing the mayors to sanitize the premises, then close two days later, then redo the sanitation, then reopen and then close again because there are municipalities that go to the polls. I am convinced that a new window of time, no matter how short, will undoubtedly allow a definitive solution for a more complete organization of school complexes. I made this decision also following the request received by the new Director who awaits the postponement of the start date of the lessons, trusting my vision of the future to understand the critical issues of the moment. I hope that parents share with me this choice of responsibility because the school must be safeguarded and it is not the place of institutional tarantella ”.

In the province of Latina, the front of the no to the reopening of schools on September 14 is increasingly compact. More and more directors, parents and local administrators are asking the Lazio region to postpone the start of classes until September 24, as has already been decided in other regions. That is after the referendum on the 20th and 21st that will lead to the closure of the complexes from Saturday the 19th to Tuesday the 22nd of September.
