He started great (second in FP1), ended up in trouble (18th in FP2, 15th in combined times): Andrea Dovizioso explains this change.
“It was not a normal day: in the afternoon many were going fast, but to do it you had to take a lot of risks, because the wind was very strong and gusty. I think it doesn’t make much sense to push too hard, also because the forecasts say that the wind will be much less intense in the coming days. Casually, Bagnaia and I did the same strategy (in FP2 they used the soft on the rear and then rode the middle in the final, NDA), in front of the other pilots.
You managed to find out something about the settings’
“Today was not a day to make decisions. On our bike, the average person has a hard time working: maybe with little wind you can push harder. Today’s data is not very significant, but in the last outing of FP1, on the soft tire, I saw some interesting things ”.
Do you think Michelin brought the right tires?
“Everybody has trouble heating up the front: these rubbers are for higher temperatures. Nobody will use the hard front, with the medium rear we are at the limit, while others manage to use it. You have to push hard from the pits, otherwise you can’t make it work ”.
What do you say about the time of Zarco?
“1’39” 7 in these conditions is a great moment. I hope that tomorrow does not go down too much with the times, in FP3 we will have to try to be fast immediately”.
