Infections and hospitalizations are increasing, which is why “phase 2” of the Covid emergency is triggered in Sardinia, based on the regional strategic plan for the progressive activation of beds.
Up to 402 beds dedicated to Covid will be enabled (currently 260 are occupied between ordinary hospitalizations and intensive care). In addition to the activation of new squares in San Francesco di Nuoro, San Pietro di Sassari and Santissima Trinità in Cagliari, the Sassarese Polyclinic and Mater Olbia have also been activated. And soon the San Martino di Oristano and the Ghilarza hospital will also enter the scene.
In Cagliari, the Region wants to keep the Holy Trinity (which today has activated the Covid 4 department) as the only Covid hospital, especially because of its pavilion structure that allows, when necessary, to release them to accommodate positive patients through the transfer of non-Covid patients. .
The government has also given the green light to hire 500 qualified but unqualified doctors, at the request of the health advisor Mario Nieddu. Personnel who, says Nieddu himself, will be hired in the public health and prevention services.
“They need to be strengthened because they are in charge of the immediate tracking of the contagion chains, they decide on the buffers to administer, on quarantines and on isolates. Without staff, the tracking of a positive can start late, but in the meantime their contacts will have had time to transmit the virus, ”explains the commissioner.
