Modern vaccine trial data have been published, showing near-total efficacy against Covid-19

Great news on the vaccine front: even the drug of Modern, which should receive EMA approval on January 6, has proven to be effective and safe against Covid-19. This is demonstrated by data from the phase 3 Cove study published in the peer-reviewed New England Journal of Medicine.

Modern Vaccino, the final data of the experiment

Of the 30,420 participants in Moderna’s vaccine trial, 196 became ill with Covid symptoms, but of these, only 11 had received the vaccine, while the other 185 had received placebo. The efficacy of Moderna’s vaccine is therefore a prevention of 94.1% symptomatic forms and 100% severe forms.

The observation took place during the second half of 2020, as the vaccine was inoculated to volunteers between July 27 and October 23 in 99 locations in the United States. The volunteers are all over 18 years of age.

Of the more than 30,000 participants, 30 had one serious form Covid-19, but none of them were part of the group that received the vaccine.

Even in the case of Moderna’s vaccine, some have manifested side effects, but fortunately all mild in nature: about half of those vaccinated suffered fatigue, muscle, joint and headache pain, especially after the second dose. For most of them, the effects started 15 hours after administration, but disappeared within a couple of days.

Already at the beginning of December, some volunteers had described how it feels to receive the Moderna vaccine and what are the reactions and effects it causes.

Modern “monstrously effective” vaccine: Burioni rejoices

Virologist Roberto Burioni enthusiastically commented on the results of the experiment in a tweet: “The scientific work describing the efficacy and safety of the Moderna vaccine has just been published. 94.1% confirmed efficacy against infections and 100% against serious infections. You couldn’t ask for anything better. Two safe vaccines and monstrously effective. Now let’s vaccinate! ”.

How many doses of the vaccine will reach Italy

During the press conference at the Ministry of Health on the monitoring of the control room illustrating the progress of the coronavirus epidemic in Italy, the president of the Higher Council of Health Franco Locatelli He declared that after Ema’s approval for the Moderna vaccine, “another 10 million and 600 thousand doses of the vaccine will go to Italy.”

The total of doses between Pfizer and Moderna, Locatelli recalled, thus reaches “62 million doses”, which will arrive in Italy in batches: “In addition to the first 470 thousand doses of vaccine, there will be 450 thousand in January each week at 490 thousand doses and this is an important fact that shows that it will be our largest vaccination campaign“.
