Migrants, boat explodes in Crotone: victims are feared. Maxi landing in Lampedusa: rebels

Lampedusa, August 30, 2020 – Again migrant landings on the shores of the Mediterranean. Emergency again. A barge caught fire in Calabria and during transshipment operations and the victims are feared (six migrants are missing), while in Sicily turns after a maxi landing Lampedusa.

Mayor Martello is very tough

The words of Mayor Martello are harsh: “If you get such a big boat, it means you are in the Mediterranean no control by the Italian Government, no ships. You cannot let a ship with 450 people enter an island where there are already 1,160 migrants in the hotspot, materially there is no more capacity. And there is no idea how to transfer migrants. If the government has decided that Lampedusa should become a hub, then it means that general strikes closing everything and it means that we will do the control. If the government is absent and the responsibility falls on the population and the administration exhausted by continuous landings without help, then – Martello observes – there is a serious stability problem in the country ”.

Governor Musumeci’s appeal

The Governor of Sicily, Nello musumeci He questioned Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte: “I am writing directly to President Conte; you are calling on the Council of Ministers to deal with the emergency in recent months that has become unbearable in these hours. Lampedusa can no longer bear it.”
