(ANSA) – NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 17 – “This is not a game.” Michelle Obama chimes in with a lengthy Instagram post about President Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the election result and allow President-elect Joe Biden to transition smoothly to the White House.
The former first lady explains that one of the great responsibilities of a president is to listen when people speak and although it was difficult for them to accept Trump’s victory in 2016, all the staff at that time were trained to allow a peaceful passing of the baton.
“We invited – he writes – the team of the president-elect to our offices and prepared detailed notes for them on what we had learned over the last eight years and how George and Laura Bush had done with us.” Then he concludes that love of the country demands respecting the election results even if they don’t like it because the presidency is not owned by a single individual or a party. “To pretend that you are – he says – playing with these baseless conspiracy theories, for both personal and political reasons, is to endanger the health and security of the country.” (HANDLE).
