«Another tragedy hits our city. After the many pains that the recent pandemic has painfully caused to our community as well and while the vicissitudes and concerns are still consumed by the serious social repercussions that lie ahead, a tragedy that goes beyond its own dimension appears unexpected, unpredictable and dramatic. . What has happened deprives us in such a brutal way of a priest, of a person, of one of our fellow citizens, who has dedicated his own life, without sparing, to that of others. With work and effort, but always with a smile, in the continuous search for solutions, but always haunted by the concrete decline of the Gospel.
Our city has already been the dramatic scene of a terrible episode prior to the death, even then violent, of Don Renzo Beretta who lost his life while working in support of the smallest, the humble and the weak. And once again our people are called to accept pain and suffering. Pain that is all the more atrocious the more it is related to the love that moved Don Roberto. Therefore, we are orphans, today as then, of a discreet but substantial presence that has done so much good for so many people. This death finds us once again torn, stunned and lost as we search in vain for explanations and responsibilities. Again and again due to this tragedy, the need to renew our efforts through paradoxically serene reflections is imposed, trying to glimpse in the darkness of this sacrifice, what are the reasons to follow the path traced by Don Roberto, each one in his own way. way. his, without departing from the behavior that this man and this priest has always adopted in his pastoral experience.
Thus, we have the opportunity to meet as a community of solidarity, having the opportunity to sincerely participate in the great pain of the relatives, of the entire diocese and also to make the pain of those who supported and helped him and of those who have received concrete consolation from him. . spiritual and above all love ».
