The 800,000 rapid antigen tests with which the Region has decided, following the example of the Bolzano province, to subject the Marche population to a massive screening will arrive in the middle of the month. We will start with the centers with more than 20 thousand inhabitants – therefore, in our province, only the municipalities of Pesaro and Fano – and then, in January, we will continue with the rest of the territory. Obviously, there will be no obligation: the administration of the tests will be done on a voluntary basis and will be free. But it will be important that as many citizens as possible respond to the call because, as Governor Francesco Acquaroli wrote on Facebook, the initiative will be fundamental “to try to stop the contagion and stop the third wave”, persecuting everyone. those cases that “could be positive being asymptomatic”, to reduce the effects of the virus.
How will the test work physically? “We are going to administer rapid antigenic swabs,” explains Health Councilor Filippo Saltamartini, “using sticks to the nose and throat. I want to emphasize that these are tests that the Higher Institute of Health has considered completely suitable for screening, they are not standard B tests. In three minutes they give the result, so it will not be necessary to call the people examined again, because the result is will communicate directly on the spot. “By the way, the regional offices and Asur are organizing all the logistics, also based on the material executors of the tests. Since an agreement has been signed with the Red Cross, their offices will always be used whenever possible; then, obviously, the sanitary facilities in the area, other spaces possibly made available by the City Councils … while the possibility of installing or using conduction points is contemplated.
The Focus Mass test to find asymptomatic patients
“The initial problem, which pushed us to the utmost caution – again Commissioner Saltamartini – was not only the actual availability of the tests, but also the number of subjects capable of administering them. Now, thanks to the agreements gradually signed with pharmacies, with health personnel, with private laboratories, with Cruces Rojas, with universities or with nursing science students, but also with retired doctors, we can begin with this massive screening ”.
At this point, everything is in the hands of the citizens: if many accept the invitation, the Region may have at the end of the project a percentage of tests greater than half of the total population (equal to one and a half million), which would represent a Huge leap forward through a territory that has so far struggled a lot in front of the bumpers, finishing third last in Italy. And it could also be insurance for any new government measure. “But above all – highlights Saltamartini – a way to contain the spread of the virus in the family and at work.” Adults over 18 years old can take the test, while the invitation could be extended to minors between 14 and 18 years old with the consent of the parents. For the moment, administration in other cases is excluded. If it is positive, obviously all the necessary isolation measures will be activated. Those who do not want to participate in the screening but want to ‘examine themselves’ could have the opportunity to acquire the ‘self-tests’ at the pharmacy, at a cost of 5 euros, which have not yet been validated at the moment. by the Ministry of Health.
