Mass tragedy: Malak, with his sister Jannat, killed by a tree and dreams of becoming a judoka

Every summer they went back to Kenitra in Morocco for the holidays, but this year they didn’t. They had decided to spend their holidays in Italy, Fatima and Hicham Lassiri and their children, in Tuscany, in Marina di Massa where this morning gusts of strong wind and rain knocked down a tree that collapsed in the tent where Malak, 14 years old and Jannat slept. , 2 ½ years.

The youngest died instantly, her sister shortly after hospitalization. “They should have returned yesterday but they had decided to wait a couple more days,” say upset neighbors. Malak was a judoka, a student at the Jigoro Kano school in via Valdellatorre, she had achieved several results in her category and intended to follow in the footsteps of her older sister, 19, who qualified for regional judo competitions with the same sports club. In the afternoon, the family decided to donate the older girl’s organs after a consultation with the doctors.

The family, Malak, Jannat and the other two boys aged 19 and 9 from Fatima, left about ten days ago. “We didn’t know they were going to Tuscany,” say neighbors. “They always went only to Morocco. They left in mid-July, they went to relatives in France and then home to Morocco.”

But Covid had changed its plans this year. They had chosen the Verde Mare campsite for their holidays. In the afternoon came a message of condolence from the mayor of Turin Chiara Appendino. “Our fellow citizens were the sisters aged 3 and 14, who died in a campsite in Marina di Massa after a tree fell. A tragedy that shocks our entire community, in whose name I express a deep closeness to the family ”. Many friends and neighbors from Turin left to join their family in Marina di Massa.
