Are the masks mandatory?
As reported in article 3 of the dpcm, “in order to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, it is mandatory throughout the national territory to use respiratory protection in closed places accessible to the public, including means of transportation, and yet, in all occasions when it is not possible to continuously guarantee the maintenance of the safety distance. “So, yes, there is an obligation in all closed places and in situations where it is not possible to maintain the correct distance.
Is anyone exempt?
Yes, the decree established some exceptions: “Children under the age of six are not subject to the obligation, as well as subjects with forms of disability that are not compatible with the continued use of the mask or subjects who interact with those mentioned” . .
Are there regions where different standards are envisaged?
Yes, some regions (such as Tuscany, Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Calabria, and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano) have made specific regional ordinances required to cover their nose and mouth every time they leave their home.
What masks can be used?
At this point, a wide flexibility is granted, provided that the protection device correctly fulfills its function: “Community masks, that is, disposable masks or washable masks, even of our own production, can be used in multilayer materials suitable to provide a barrier adequate and, at the same time, that guarantees adequate comfort and breathability, shape and adherence that allow covering from the chin above the nose. “
How should companies behave?
Stores, as closed places, must guarantee compliance with the protection measure for all customers and therefore: “Use of masks in closed places or environments and, in any case, in all possible work phases where they are not can guarantee interpersonal distance. “
Where will it be possible to buy them?
The masks will be available in pharmacies, parapharmacies, but also in supermarkets, tobacconists, hardware stores and large distribution chains. It starts with 50 thousand points of sale, but in mid-May the points of sale will become 100,000, one for every 600 inhabitants. Starting Monday, May 4, a sale price of 50 cents plus VAT has been established for each mask, so even a family with children has the opportunity to buy masks for everyone. Agreements have been signed with pharmacies, parapharmacies, but also supermarkets, tobacconists and large distribution chains to increase the points of sale where the masks will be available at a fixed price.
What are the WHO indications?
The World Health Organization recommends in any case to wear a mask when there is even the suspicion of having contracted the new coronavirus or if symptoms such as cough or sneezing occur. The WHO also specifies that the use of the mask helps to limit the spread of the virus, but it must be adopted in addition to other hygiene measures, from gels to gloves.
How to put on and take off the mask?

What is meant by FFP classifications?
In addition to the surgical ones, the masks on the market are classified into three different levels of protection: FFP1, FFP2, FFP3. The FFP1 guarantees 72% protection from the outside to the inside and vice versa. For FFP2, the filtering capacity in both directions is 92%. Finally, the FFP3 has an in and out filtering capacity of 98%.
Better than surgical masks or FFP2?
In this sense, there are no obligations, but FFP2 masks are used to prevent the passage of the incoming virus and are necessary for medical personnel and anyone who has to deal with greedy patients. In all other cases, simple surgical masks are sufficient, preventing outgoing infection. The Ministry of Health and WHO also specify that “it is not useful to use multiple overlapping masks”.
