The Maserati has revealed the name of its now-imminent compact SUV, which many call Levantina. The new model, one of many set to be released in the next four years by the House of the Trident, will be called Grecalelike the strong wind blowing from the northeast. The Grecale, which Maserati decided to leave almost in the dark during a very short presentation to the press invited for the presentation event of the new MC20, was fully developed in Modena, while its production, starting at the end of the year with the order picking that began last night immediately after the presentation of the world premiere of the MC20, has been decided for some time: it will be assembled in Cassino in a new assembly line for which Fiat Chrysler has decided to invest 800 million euros under the industrial plan for Italy more than 5 billion euros in progress.
Debut in 2021. The Grecale will debut on the market next year and will be offered with endothermic and electrified engines. After all, this is Maserati’s new product strategy: driving electrification and innovation to provide cutting-edge products, while respecting a DNA that combines performance, sportiness and luxury for more than 80 years. The Grecale will be compact but family-friendly and, above all, fully respect the Trident tradition. Among other things, Maserati also introduced another first on the naming front: the new line of draft products will be called Lightning.
The new product plan. The Grecale, as mentioned, represents just one of many models included in a revamped product plan aimed at relaunching the fate of the Modenese brand after a few years of struggling sales. Specifically, Maserati plans to release 16 new or updated models over the next four years, 13 of which are brand new. 2020 is the year of the reboot: after the first hybrid, the Ghibli hybrid, and the extension to the entire offer of the Trophy range Until now confined to supercars, the restyling of the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante will hit the market. Next year it will be the turn of the MC20, the Grecale and the hybrid version of the large SUV produced at Mirafiori.
Range of seven models in 2022. 2022 will therefore be a very intense year because the range will be enriched by seven new models. In general, Maserati will be able to offer to the market the MC20 coupe, spider and electric, the Grecale with traditional and plug motors; the new GranTurismo, which will be the first 100% battery-powered Maserati to be launched on the market (it will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies such as silicon carbide inverters hitherto used solely in the racing sector, which the House of Trident will launch for the first time on the market) and the new GranCabrio (both will be produced in Turin and will be offered with all types of engines); the Ghibli, the Quattroporte and the Levante. New versions of both the flagship and the SUV will debut in 2023. In addition, by 2024 the entire range will be 100% electrified, equipped with cutting-edge technologies, connected and equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (beyond the second level of the Sae classification).
The objectives. The indications on the product front were also accompanied by some market objectives: by 2025, 70% of sales will be represented by SUVs, which should grow 40% compared to 2019. Sedans, thanks to an increase in sales Sales of 52% will have to represent 15% of the total, while sports, which is expected to fall 8%, will have to reach 5%. The Emiliano manufacturer will thus cover 90% of its reference market: the remaining 10%, represented by long wheelbase sedans, is not expected to be covered except indirectly through SUVs because it is considered a segment destined to contract significantly compared to last. due to the increasing propensity of consumers around the world to buy high-wheelers.
