MASS. The two sisters aged 3 and 14, overwhelmed and killed by a poplar while sleeping in a tent together with a third sister on a plot of the Verde Mare campsite, on the coast of Marina di Massa, lived in the province of Turin. The tree, four and a half meters tall, crashed in the early morning of this morning – Sunday, August 30 – due to the violent storm that hit the coast of Versilia.
Useless resuscitation
The family spent their vacations in that equipped campsite, among green spaces, pine forests, swimming pools and play areas. Vain attempts to revive the youngest by the 118 rescuers. The 14-year-old sister, transported in serious condition to the hospital, died shortly after hospitalization. The third sister, a 19-year-old girl, suffered small bruises and did not require hospitalization. The parents were unharmed.
Next to the bungalow
According to what has been learned in situ, the fall of the tree affected a family originally from Morocco, living in Italy, in the Turin area, who came to spend a few days on vacation in Tuscany. The parents, in addition to having rented a bungalow at the campsite, would have installed the tent next to it to have more space where they can spend the night. This is where the three sisters were hit by the tree. The accident occurred around 7 am at the Via del Cacciatore campsite. Firefighters continue their operations to secure the area.
