Viterbo – The Magnamagna in Piazza della morte in Viterbo turns off the lights. Historic local of typical products and wellness in the center. Next Sunday the end of a story will be formalized. Open another. Brand new. The aspects that will characterize it are not yet known. “No comment” from the organizers. It will be a surprise. Certainly happy, considering the period, known as Covid. With closures, sequels and layoffs.

“After more than 13 years of honorable career – write the organizers on the club’s Facebook page – we have decided to put an end to a story that we never imagined would take us this far.

Without realizing it, Magnamagna represented (perhaps) the first free zone in the city with a view of that ‘sea’ represented by Orson Welles in the movie “Otello”. That sea was actually an extension of history and beauty that lacked smiles and toasts, in short, a meeting point or more properly a socialization point ”.

Magnamagna was this. For more than a decade. And soon it will probably be better. Viva Magnamagna, which in two good decades has not only given the best, a beautiful, cultured and elegant benchmark, but has also been and is the best visiting card to enter one of the most important strategic points of urban tourism. The bridge dominated by the Palazzo Farnese that leads to Piazza San Lorenzo, where the cathedral and the palace of the popes are located. Lighting the best even at night, making everyone realize that nearby there is also one of the oldest epigraphs in the city and, above all, saving and enhancing the arcades of the winter garden. Viterbo’s first winter garden.

“From this spontaneous socialization a square has been created – the organizers’ Magnamagna continues on Facebook – and not only have we loved that square but we have also provided a service for tourists and fellow citizens. We believe that we have not only tried, but that we have also partially succeeded.

And they did great. So much so that yesterday, when the closure was announced, many hearts were very tense. Brave entrepreneurs who, with commitment, passion and style, have changed the face of a piece of the city. A decisive piece. The entrance to the holy city of Viterbo. An entrance that before Magnamagna, despite its beauty, was ugly. With Magnamagna it began to shine with its own light. To the point that there, the city seems a world apart. What everyone would like for the historic center that continues to suffer neglect and abandonment. And where the clubs that open at night, and to which the survival and presence of tourists and students in the medieval neighborhoods are largely due, are suffering tremendously the economic consequences of emergencies, mini and macro closures, terror and , just not make mistakes, political incapacity.

“We regret closing like this – conclude the Magnamagna organizers – but without a real closing there will be no new beginning. Sunday from 10 onwards we wait for you in our winter garden for the last opening day “.
