Low blinds and empty tables: this is what Avezzano looks like after 6 pm (Gallery)

Avezzano. A ghostly city: this is how Avezzano presents itself, a few hours after the new Dpcm signed by Prime Minister Conte that demands the closure of activities from 6:00 p.m. As of today, according to the decree of the President of the Council of Ministers, the activities of catering services, including bars, pubs, restaurants, ice cream parlors and patisseries, are suspended from the end of the afternoon.

Therefore, the prohibition of consuming food and beverages in public places and open to the public is taken, while catering with home delivery is allowed in compliance with hygiene and health regulations. Takeout catering is allowed until midnight, with prohibition of consumption on site or in the immediate vicinity.

And the city of Avezzano respects the rules: the shutters are lowered, even a few minutes before closing, and the city center is completely empty. Via Garibaldi, street of the boys’ nightlife, is deserted and totally dark.

In Piazza Risorgimento and in neighboring streets such as via Corradini, Corso della Libertà and via Mazzini, some merchants, struggling with the closure of the bar, are forced to fire customers who forego the classic evening aperitif.

Lights off, empty tables, closed bars: this is how Avezzano receives the new semi-closure, or “masked confinement”, as many denounce on social networks, dictated by the Government in the middle of the second wave of the coronavirus.

However, concern persists among those who hope not to have to fire employees and waiters and those who fear that the closure of the bar and the club may not be only temporary. There are rents to pay, bills that keep coming in, employees that can’t be sent home.
