Livorno, fire of Ghiomelli: photos and videos

Those lived in via Firenze in the early hours of the afternoon today, Saturday 29 August, were moments of great fear, where a vast fire he went crazy inside the plant store Ghiomelli (here our direct) destroying it. A large column of black smoke was visible from much of the city throughout the afternoon. Numerous calls to the firefighters who came to the place to tame the flames that, driven by the strong wind, also penetrated the vegetation behind the store. Fortunately, there were no injuries as the employees were not inside the workshop at the time of the fire.

The owner’s anger: “46 years of business destroyed”

The warehouse seems to have caught fire, with everything structure gone completely destroyed. The road, also given the proximity of the gas stations, was closed to traffic and bus routes were diverted. The mayor Luca Salvetti, the Civil Defense of Livorno, carabinieri, police, Svs, Misericordia and the fire teams also from Lucca and Pisa attended the place. The Livorno Municipality Department of the Environment advises residents of Korea, Shanghai and Fiorentina districts to keep windows closed for 6-8 hours to avoid being hit by fumes and bad smells.

“The activation zone was developed in a windward area – said the engineer of the fire department Fabio Bernardi -, but thanks to the intervention of our men we were able to limit the fire by protecting the distributor and the surrounding houses ”. The mayor spoke instead to express his closeness to the workers. Salvetti: “We are very sorry for what happened, Ghiomelli is a historic activity in our city. The important thing, however, is that no one has been injured. We have already told the owner that we will help him. Now we have to understand how the fire started.”
