Nibali’s Belgian teammate. Second place for the Australian Ewan, third for the Belgian Van Aert
Everything is ready for the start of the 112th edition of Milan-San Remo. At 8 o’clock, the 175 starters (25 teams) of the Classicissima gathered at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan. Among the favorites is the winner of the latest Van Aert edition. In the race 6 other riders who have conquered the race in the past: world champion Julian Alaphilippe (2019), Vincenzo Nibali (2018), Michał Kwiatkowski (2017), Arnaud Demare (2016), John Degenkolb (2015) and Alexander Kristoff (2014). Also expected are Maximilian Schachmann, new Paris-Nice winner, three-time world champion Peter Sagan, world time trial champion Filippo Ganna, Philippe Gilbert, Greg Van Avermaet, Michael Matthews, Søren Kragh Andersen, Alex Aranburu, Caleb Ewan. Elia Viviani, Sam Bennett, Nacer Bouhanni and the Italian and European champion Giacomo Nizzolo. The only significant novelty of the route (299 km long) is the exclusion of the Passo del Turchino (blocked by a landslide) which will be replaced by the Colle di Giovo.
