In qualifying on Saturday, Hamilton reasserted his overwhelming power by winning pole position on the last useful lap. Yet another insult to Bottas forced to second position, ahead of Verstappen. Excellent and unexpected fourth place for Leclerc, who for the tenth time in his career will start from the second row with a Ferrari that, update after update, shows some signs of improvement at least for the Monegasque driver.

Before the Portuguese GP in Portimao, the drivers’ championship classification sees the lead Lewis Hamilton with 230 points. Second the teammate in Mercedes, Bottas with 161, tapped by Verstappen at 147. Bagarre from fourth to eighth with Ricciardo at the foot of the podium with 78 points and Leclerc eighth with 63. Between the two, Pérez, Norris and Albon are placed for the support positions.
