Tragic fate or negligence? The father of the two little sisters killed by a fallen tree in their tent in a camp asks for the truth
“I saw my two daughters lying on the morgue bed next to each other: they looked like two sleeping angels.” These are the words, related by Il Tirreno, by Hicham Lassiri, the father of two sisters from Turin of Moroccan origin, Malak and Jannat aged 14 and 3, murdered on Sunday morning in a camp in Marina di Massa by fall from a tree in your tent.
“I know, they will definitely go to heaven. But in the meantime I hope that justice is served here on earth, because that tree wasn’t supposed to fall in them. Everything was rotten and had to be cut first. I do not want to accuse anyone, there are investigations for that. I only ask for justice and the truth, ”he said.
“The sound of the wind woke us up – he remembers -. A roar. After a few seconds, the tree fell. Jannat, the little girl, I didn’t see her. I went up to Malak, who had a cut on his forehead and said ‘Dad, I can’t breathe, I can’t’. I replied: Don’t leave me, please don’t leave me, but she looked at me and said ‘I can’t’. I love you. ‘ These were her last words. Then she passed out and never woke up. “
Lassiri explains that she doesn’t feel like “going back to camp and seeing my girls’ games and scattered clothes. I returned on Sunday afternoon to pick up my son who we had left there in company while my wife and I were in the hospital ”.
“We arrived at 4 and I saw that they were cutting down some trees. So I wonder: maybe those trees had to be cut down first? Did the tree that fell on my daughters also have to be cut down first? There was no tornado, just a strong wind. I hope – he concludes – that the truth is discovered ”.
It will be up to agronomist appointed by the Massa Carrara Prosecutor’s Office to establish the status of the poplar, if the tree fell due to bad weather or if the tragedy could have been avoided.
