Born in Novara on April 3, 1924, Lidia Menapace – born Lidia Briscola– very young participated in the Resistance as partisan relief. After the war he became involved in Catholic movements, particularly with the Fuci (Italian Federation of Catholic Universities). In 1964, as a DC candidate, she was the first woman elected to the Bolzano Provincial Council, along with Waltraud Gebert Deeg. In that same legislature, she was also the first woman to join the provincial government, as an effective counselor for social affairs and health.
After leaving the Christian Democrats in 1968, sympathized with the PCI and in 1969 he was one of the founders of the first nucleus of “the poster”. In 1973 she was one of the promoters of the Christian movement for socialism. From 2006 to 2008 she was a senator for the Communist Refoundation. In 2011 he joined the Anpi National Committee.
