Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Tuscany, which took place on Sunday at the Mugello circuit and in which several accidents occurred that forced the cars to start twice from the starting grid, risking to para finish the race early. In second place was Valtteri Bottas, third Red Bull’s Alexander Albon, on the first podium of his career. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had to retire on lap four, while the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel finished eighth and tenth respectively.

The accidents at the Grand Prix were such that they forced eight drivers to retire: they started on the first lap, when a rear-end collision between the last cars on the starting grid caused a series of collisions that caused Verstappen to leave the track, retreating shortly after. together with Pierre Gasly. Vettel, also involved, had to pit stop to replace a front end of the car. The safety car then intervened for the first time and remained on the track for several laps.

As soon as he left, there was another accident on the straight, this time more violent: a collision from behind that involved Carlos Sainz, Nicholas Latifi, Kevin Magnussen and Antonio Giovinazzi, all retired. No cyclist, despite the serious accident, was injured. The cars that remained in the race returned to the pits, and then started again from the starting grid, when it was already the ninth lap: at that point a new race began in practice, finally without a safety car, in which Leclerc was great difficulty, doing a long series of very slow laps and losing several positions before returning to the pits to change tires.

Hamilton, Bottas and Ricciardo were the fastest drivers, until on lap 43 Racing Point’s Lance Stroll went off the track in the corners, damaging the car which then even caught fire. The safety car got back in and the race came to a halt again. After some uncertainty it was decided to resume it and the pilots started from a standstill and again from the positions of the starting grid. It was since the 1990 Belgian Grand Prix that he did not start from the starting positions twice. Hamilton started well again, the Ferraris bad, Bottas regular, but then recovered like Albon, who had a great race.
For Hamilton it is the sixth victory in this World Championship, and the 90th of his career, one less than that of Michael Schumacher. He is firmly in the lead in the drivers’ standings, with 190 points, 55 more than Bottas and 80 more than Verstappen.
