Mauro Bellugi suffered the amputation of both legs after Covid.
The former defender of Inter, Napoli and Bologna and the national team (32 games) was hospitalized on November 4 for being positive for Coronavirus. His condition worsened to the point of requiring urgent intervention for complications. Bellugi himself, 70, told his dramatic story during a video call with journalist Luca Serafini, on the site altropensiero.net.
“Covid also took away the leg with which I scored against Borussia Moenchengladbach,” said the former defender who scored the only goal of his career against the Germans, in the European Cup match on November 3, 1971, he won 4- 2 from Inter. Bellugi is already thinking of being able to walk again thanks to the prostheses: “I’ll take Pistorius’s,” he said.
Bellugi was encouraged by Bologna, who heard the news and tweeted a photo of him in a red and blue shirt and the message: “Come on Mauro, all of Bologna is with you.”
