Coldiretti: closing at 6pm costs a billion in food and wine

A drastic collapse of the activity that – Coldiretti emphasizes – weighs on the sale of many agri-food products, from wine to beer, from meat to fish, from fruit to vegetables, but also on high quality meats and cheeses who find an important outlet market in consumption outside the home. In some sectors such as fish and wine, catering – specifies Coldiretti- even represents the main marketing channel for billing.
Italians’ spending on lunches, dinners, snacks and breakfasts away from home before the coronavirus emergency – he stresses – was equivalent to 35% of the total food consumption of Italians. About 330,000 bars, canteens and restaurants throughout the Peninsula are involved in the restaurant business, as well as 70,000 food industries and 740,000 farms along the supply chain committed to guaranteeing supply for a total of 3, 8 million jobs. “The limitations on business activities must therefore provide adequate financial support throughout the entire supply chain and measures such as de-taxation are also extended for the next time periods, exceeding the limit of state aid,” said President of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini in underlining the need to “safeguard the national agri-food system, which represents the main wealth of the country and plays a driving role in the entire Made in Italy economic system in Italy and abroad.”
