Rome, September 15, 2020 – Captured ‘Johnny the Gypsy’. Giuseppe Mastini, 63 years old, had escaped from prison maximum security officer of Bancali, in Sassari, where he was serving a life sentence. The fugitive was caught by the police in Sardinia. Mastini was found in the Sassari camp: he had fled in a rural area. Like other times, she would have fled for matters of the heart.

The gypsy had already escaped 7 times
‘Lo Zingaro’, whose nickname is linked to hers Sinti origins, had been locked up in the Sassari prison since July 2017, after the previous escape that took place on June 30 of that year from the Fasano prison, in the province of Cuneo. Mastini has one behind him long trail of blood since the late seventies. His first murder dates back to when he was only eleven years old. His first escape dates back to 1987 when, taking advantage of a granted license, he did not return to prison and became the protagonist of numerous criminal acts: thefts, robberies, but also the kidnapping of a girl, Silvia Leonardi, the murder of security guard Michele . Giraldi and the wound of a carabinieri brigadier, Bruno Nolfi. He was captured two years later.
