Joe Biden was elected the 46th President of the United States. During the election campaign, he promised many changes compared to the previous administration of Donald Trump. And among these he also made a commitment that made animal lovers happy: “Let’s bring the dogs back to the White House,” wrote the Democratic candidate, attaching a commercial that portrays him with one of his two German shepherds, Major and Champ. The video also shows Trump speaking at a rally about how much he hates dogs. The outgoing president was, in fact, the first to not have a pet in the White House.

And the new president will even bring two: In 2008, Biden promised his wife Jill that he would buy him a dog if he became vice president. And so, during President Obama, Champ came.
But then there was also some controversy about choosing to have a breeding dog, so in March 2018 Biden, now a former vice president, adopted a puppy from a kennel, Major. Decisive was daughter Ashley, who sent her father a Deleware Humane Association Facebook post showing a photo of a litter of German Shepherds who had health problems and were looking for foster families.
Both dogs also received special training to get them used to flying or being in front of large groups of photographers. In Champ’s case, the task of training him was entrusted to the K-9 coordinator, New Castle County Police Dog Unit, Mark Tobin
And now, after four years without pets, Champ and Major will roam those corridors and meadows again just like Bo and Sunny, President Obama’s two famous Portuguese water dogs.
