A 15-year-old boy went down to the patio of his house in Velletri (Rome) and, after dousing himself with gasoline, he caught fire. At that time his father was returning home to take him to school and tried to put out the flames to save him.

The young man was rescued and transported by helicopter to the Gemelli polyclinic, where he is hospitalized in very serious conditions. His father also suffered burns to his hands and feet and is hospitalized in Sant’Eugenio. It happened this morning between 8.30 and 9 in a courtyard on Via Fontana Parata, in Velletri.
Both the young man and the father are Romanian but they have been living in Italy with their mother for years. The carabinieri from Velletri station intervened on the spot and are trying to reconstruct the reasons for the gesture.
At the moment, no problems would have arisen at school or in the family. The parents, who work in the fields in the area, had left early this morning.
