The continuous falls registered since March 2020 contributed to a significant contraction in employment compared to July of the previous year, with a percentage decrease of 2.4 points to -556 thousand units. Decrease involving men and women of any age, as well as employees (-317 thousand) and the self-employed (-239 thousand). Those over 50 were an exception, as the number of employed increased by 153,000.

During the 12 months, job seekers decreased 1.8%, equivalent to -44 thousand units, but inactive persons between 15 and 64 years old increased 3.6 percentage points (equal to + 475 thousand).
Unemployment in the EU

The highest rates in terms of youth unemployment (for countries for which data is available) we find them in Spain, with 41.7%, in Italy, where it is equal to 31.1%, and in Sweden, where it reaches 28.9%.
