IO app malfunction to get a “refund”

As of Monday, and again on Tuesday morning, many users have reported failures in the social networks of the application “IO”, the application that serves to access all digital services of the Public Administration and that since yesterday can use to activate the “Cashback Italia” for the Christmas period. For many, the issues preventing them from associating their debit and credit cards with the app were resolved on Tuesday, but for others they continue.

The reason seems to be the broad participation – perhaps greater than technically manageable by the app in the so-called “cashback”, a plan devised by the government to encourage the use of electronic payments in physical stores, rewarding them with partial refunds of 10% of shopping.

From December 8 to 31, those who make at least 10 purchases with credit cards, debit cards, debit cards or Satispay, a very widespread application for payments through smartphones, will be able to obtain a refund of 10 percent of expenses incurred. in shops, up to a maximum of 150 euros. Refunds will be credited to the checking account in the first months of 2021.

To access the service, however, it is necessary to associate their cards and IBAN with the “IO” application, an operation available since yesterday: the application, however, had serious slowdowns and connection problems, and for many users it was not possible to complete it. The problems were found especially when accessing the “Portfolio” section of the application and in particular when registering the PagoBancomat circuit cards. For users who tried to register, the message appeared: “Could not search for payment methods, please try again later.”

Failures could also lead to some non-payment record issues. In fact, the platform will only record payments that will be made after midnight on the day the cards were enabled. To give an example, if on December 8 you can associate your debit and credit cards with the application, only payments made after December 9 will be recorded.

The alternative to obtain the registration of your payments, and later obtain the reimbursements of the “Cashback Italia”, is to use the applications of the individual payment systems, such as Satispay or Nexi Pay, which works for all cards in the Nexi circuit. .

PagoPa, who manages the app, has apologized for the inconvenience and guaranteed that he will work hard to fix all issues. Government sources had said that “almost half a million new requests had been received to add a card in the Wallet section of the application, with peaks of approximately 6,000 accesses per second. At the moment – they had specified this Monday by Palazzo Chigi – there are already around 1 million users who have loaded a payment method and are activating Cashback. They are impressive figures.
