On Sunday at 10.30 it is the turn of the head of respiratory pathophysiology: together with him colleagues from the Covid departments

PADOVA. Professor Andrea Vianello, head of the respiratory pathophysiology department, will be one of the first to receive the anti-Covid vaccine on Sunday morning at the hospital. Called for 10.30 am along with other colleagues, including Dr. Anna Maria Cattelan, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases, will be vaccinated on the external consultation plate on the ground floor of the Polyclinic. Vianello, like most doctors, spoke out immediately in favor of the vaccine and now it is his turn to be among the first to receive the dose.

The list

“A few days ago we had the task of making a list with the name of each member of the staff in our department in favor of getting vaccinated,” Vianello explains.

«In my department I have gathered about forty memberships between doctors, nurses, health social workers and interns. More than 80% gave their availability. As for the remaining 20%, these are people who in most cases have not yet met. The difficulty was precisely that of giving the lists quickly.

Professor Vianello has never expressed himself unfavorably about the vaccine, on the contrary: “I would do it and I will do it,” he said a few days ago, “the perplexities of some are not efficacy but safety. These two elements have been evaluated in a short time, so the same companies have reserved the right to continue monitoring the adverse effects during the next two years. But I would personally do the vaccine anyway. I am a person of great risk, like all my health companions. In my personal risk-benefit balance, the benefits are certainly greater.

The dose

The 220 doses of vaccines (each dose contains five) destined for the Hospital (90), the Ulss 6 hospitals (55 at the Covid Hospital in Schiavonia, 55 at the Cittadella hospital outpatient clinics) and the Iov (20), arrived at the Monoblocco Hospital Pharmacy, directed by Dr. Francesca Venturini, this morning at 8.

They arrived at the Verona airport, where they stayed overnight, and escorted by the army, entered the hospital pharmacy. From here they will leave for the other hospitals in the province. So this morning we started. First from the staff of the Covid departments, including Professor Vianello, then we will move on to everyone else.

Field

In January, the vaccination campaign should start. Within the outpatient clinics of the Hospital Polyclinic there are two jobs where 90 doctors, nurses, social workers from the departments of Infectious, Intensive and Subintensive Covid Care, Emergencies and Suem, will be vaccinated in a few working hours in exposed departments). We will proceed from the oldest and then gradually to the youngest staff. The university hospital has been designated as a reference center for the conservation and distribution of vaccines for the province of Padua.

In fact, the hospital pharmacy is equipped with adequate freezers to store doses at –80 degrees. About twenty doses will go this morning to the Veneto Oncology Institute (Iov), where despite the fact that there are currently no Covid rooms, there are an average of 15 infections per month. –
