On October 20, the president of Piedmont Alberto Cirio signed two ordinances in force until November 13 that establish the obligation to use distance education for secondary schools and the closure of shopping centers on Saturdays and Sundays “, with the exception of food and pharmaceutical sectors ”, that is to say, of the activities belonging to these categories that are located within shopping centers and that may remain open.

As of Monday, October 26, in all institutes it will be mandatory to integrate remote digital teaching with face-to-face teaching, for a participation of not less than 50 percent in classes from second to fifth. Each institution can organize itself independently according to its needs and possibilities. According to President Cirio, this will “guarantee the priority of keeping schools always open, preventing 75,000 children from using the means of transport each week with a considerable risk of contagion.”

As for the closure of shopping centers during the weekend, as of October 24, the ordinance establishes that “food stores, pharmacies and medical offices, catering establishments and tobacconists” may remain open. The objective, explains the region, is to avoid social gatherings and for shopping centers “to also be the destination of many residents of Lombardy, who have already taken a similar measure.”

The ordinance also confirms the closure from midnight to 5 o’clock of all business activities (except pharmacies) and the prohibition of the sale of alcohol after 9 pm in all activities (including vending machines), excluding table service in restaurants.
